Before Disney purchased Lucasfilm and completely reset Star Wars canon, lightsaber colors had specific associations. Blue blades belonged to Jedi Guardians who saw themselves as proactive heroes, while green was reserved for Jedi Consulars who took a more reflective approach 
Blue
Blue symbolizes the warrior-guardians of the Jedi Order. These Jedi soldiers fight to maintain peace throughout space using their lightsabers as tools in this fight for galactic stability.
Blue lightsaber wielders are considered powerful fighters who demonstrate both light and dark aspects of the Force equally, possessing both fighting abilities as well as negotiation abilities.
Purple lightsabers have long been seen as a sign of nobility and wisdom, symbolizing both nobility and wisdom. Users of such blades possess deep connections to both the light and dark sides of the Force and know how to utilize their full potential in all situations. Jedi such as Mace Windu and Cal Kestis used purple blades, representing bold confidence, fearlessness and the ability to find redemption from any dark forces within.
Green
Knights of the Old Republic game non-canonically describes blue as being used by combative Jedi Guardians while green represented those with diplomatic duties and more scholarly Jedi Consulars with diplomatic responsibilities; this theory has since been altered; yellow was reserved for Temple guards with double-blade spikes who carried double-blade spikes on robed and masked bodies.
Red
Red is often associated with aggression and hostility; when used by Jedi, it represents both power and danger associated with the dark side of the Force – something Sith often do by wielding red-bladed lightsabers.
Green has always symbolized Jedi Guardians with an understanding of the Force and an affinity for wisdom (think Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn). Rey and Ahsoka Tano created double-bladed green sabers which represent their journey beyond the Jedi Order.
Purple symbolizes an equilibrium between blue and green in the new canon, such as with Jedi Survivor Cal Kestis’ rare blade from Legends or Yaddle and Talak Hord’s deviant knightly ways from Legends. Yellow stands for detachment from the Jedi path, as evidenced by Temple Guards who wielded double-bladed yellow sabers during battle scenes.
Purple
Star Wars universe is full of mysteries, but few stand out more than Mace Windu’s purple lightsaber. Samuel L. Jackson requested this hue be included in Attack of the Clones as it represents the balance between the light and dark sides of Force and represents Jedi that possesses both power and flexibility to adjust gracefully and skillfully in various circumstances.
Rare lightsaber colours include blue, orange and white. Ahsoka Tano was the only known Jedi to use a white lightsaber during her transition between Jedi and Sith forces; its white hue symbolizes neutrality, purity and new beginnings. Bronze lightsabers can often be found worn by characters such as Lowbacca and Freedon Nadd.
Orange
Although rare, orange lightsabers represent compassion and diplomacy as well as an equilibrium between the light and dark sides of the Force. Users with orange lightsabers may be exploring both aspects of it while not fully subscribing to either one.
As a result of the lightsaber color meaning, these aliens possess an acute sense of equilibrium and are adept at working with both sides to promote galactic peace.
While not very popular among Star Wars fans, orange lightsabers can be found in Jedi Fallen Order. Cal Kestis wielded one, as did Jedi Council member Yaddle; unfortunately, no other canon characters use orange blades at this time; hopefully, that changes in time.
Yellow
In the Star Wars universe, yellow symbolizes goodness, warmth, and energy. Jedi who wields yellow sabers give up a part of themselves to protect those around them. They also have unparalleled fighting abilities. The Jedi Temple Guards were known to favour yellow sabers. Rey, who built her yellow blade in The Rise of Skywalker, is a notable example.
Another colour that isn’t seen as often as blue or green is orange. This colour is associated with the Jedi Sentinels, who formed a middle ground between the Jedi Consular and the Jedi Guardians. Sentinels have diplomacy skills and unmatched fighting abilities.
There are also a few other colours that have been introduced in the canon, including silver (peace and purity), magenta (charm and harmony), bronze (connection to nature and wisdom), and cyan (energy, creativity, and ambition). The next time you play a Star Wars video game, remember that your character’s saber colour tells a story about them.
